Break Free from Agonizing Back Pain:

Back pain, whether acute or chronic, sucks the joy out of life.  Almost every single person suffers from back pain at some point in their life. Here are a few important tips that can help you avoid becoming a victim of back pain.   If you are already suffering from it, following these simple guidelines can perhaps help you break free from agonizing back pain:

1- Drink Plenty of Water: Dehydration is often overlooked as one of the causes of back pain.  Hydration plays a very important role in the proper functioning of all cells and organs of the body, which includes the back and spine areas. To keep hydrated, try opting for water sometimes, instead of drinking tea, coffee, fruit juices, energy drinks or soda over the course of the day. Drinking plenty of water helps the muscles surrounding your spine to remain in a good shape. Some experts recommend drinking at least eight 8oz glasses of water  daily. Others say you should drink between 1/2 ounce to 1ounce of water for each pound you weigh to keep from getting dehydrated. Find a solution that works for you.

2- Trim your Belly Fat: Your body fat has a very deep as well as direct connection with your back pain. All those extra pounds around your belly do nothing good but increase the load on the muscles around your spine.  Trimming a belly that is bulging out dramatically, can help you break free from distressing back pain. Gradually changing your eating increasing exercise and drinking enough water are good ways to long term, lasting changes.

3- Keep Your Body Moving: Chronic back pain can cause some people stop being active for fear that their back pain might increase. Being inactive will only worsen the problem because inactive muscles get weak and are more prone to increased pain and injury. The regular practice of simple stretching exercises is very essential; it strengthens the muscles that support your back. If that is not possible, you should at least spare some time for walking. It is one of the best exercises for back pain. You should take special care of moving your body during working hours. Walking around or stretching your body every thirty minutes is very crucial to ease back-pain.

4- Sit with Good Posture: Improper sitting posture is the cause of the majority of back pains. It is the spine that supports most of our body weight and bad posture induces an uneven weight upon it resulting in backache. Do not slouch while sitting or even standing. Proper sitting posture means your chest upright, head elevated and shoulders centered in a comfortable position, lower back slightly curved inwards, upper back a little outward and then again inward at the neck.  Use of a Posture Perfect Ergonomic Table can make a big difference in reading posture.

Meet Dr. LeRoy Perry

I owe my athletic career to Dr. LeRoy Perry, D.C., C. Ped.

After Dr. Perry got me past a “make or break” injury, I went on to four world records, Olympic Gold and Silver medals, seven U. S. National Championships and thirteen more years of world class performances in the discus throw.

Dr. Perry was the first chiropractor to serve as an official Olympic Team Doctor, and did so for five Olympics, but never for the United States, unfortunately.  He treated athletes from more than 45 countries, in spite of being initially shunned by the U.S. Olympic Sports medical establishment.  Olympic and professional athletes have sought Dr. Perry because they knew he helped them.  Currently, because of Dr. Perry’s pioneering work, U.S. Olympic teams in nearly every sport have doctors with chiropractic degrees.

Lee, as his friends call him, is a Renaissance man, a modern day Hippocrates, and a Leonardo da Vinci of our time.  As a chiropractor and innovator in sports science, Dr. Perry has designed many healing therapies as well as special exercise equipment.  His inventions are an integral part of patient care at the West Los Angeles- based International Sportscience Institute (ISI), of which he is the president and founder.

With co-founder Wilt Chamberlain, Dr. Perry also created the Foundation for Athletic Research and Education, an organization that teaches athletes how to enhance performance through proper diet, exercise, and biomechanics.  “Sports science is really an art dependent on science,” he says.”  The thinking process of a sports scientist is very much the same as a forensic detective.  We are trained to look for health clues.”

The Spinal Decompressor is Dr. Perry’s best known therapeutic equipment.  “Use this on a regular basis and you won’t need to see me.”
